Fighting the opioid crisis
While significant work remains to be done, the strategies I’ve learned as co-chair of the Community Overdose Action Team have resulted in a large reduction in overdose deaths in the county. I believe that taking these strategies to Columbus will help the state turn the corner on this crisis.
We’ve gotten over 100 organizations to work together in Montgomery county on overdose response, clarifying roles, assigning duties, and making sure that information was shared between all the relevant parties during the crisis.
By treating the crisis as a public health issue, and getting those who need treatment in treatment, I’m proud to say that we’ve reduced deaths, emergency room visits, and 911 calls by over 60% over the past year. We knew we couldn’t arrest our way out of them problem.
